installed there and built Sikinos

where you can also visit the church

of the Assumption of Virgin Mary

which is built at the exact place

where the temple of  Pythiou Apollonos

was situated B.C.

In fact, it is obvious that

the church has been

built with the materials of the older church. Another sight, worth seeing,

is the Monastery of  Zodohou Pigis

which is located above Chora

and looks like a castle

because it used to be shelter

for inhabitants in order to escape

from the pirates.

Local Festivals

There are four annual festivals

that take place in the island.

On the 15^th of August,

on the 21^st of November

the festivity of Zodohou Pigis

and Pandanassa on the 27nth of March.

Daily schedules from Piraeus port

to Ios island

(via "High Speed" ferry boat,

within 3 1/2 hours),

with direct connection from Ios port

to Sikinos port within 30 minutes.
